Paes and his Australian partner Samantha Stosur combined well to beat Czech Republic's Kveta Peschke and Wesley Koolhof of Netherlands 6-4. 7-5.
Rohan Bopanna's Australian Open journey though, came to an end on Saturday. The tall Indian, who had lost in the first round of the men's doubles event in the company of Divij Sharan, suffered the same fate in the mixed doubles event as well.
Rohan and his Chinese partner Zhaoxuan Yang lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-10 to the German-Colombian pairing of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and RObert Farah.
A loss for Rohan was also a loss for the Indian fans at the Melbourne Park as a win would have seen him and his partner take on Paes and Stosur in the second round.
