Prakash Raj, the South Indian versatile actor, is going to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Bengaluru Central as an independent candidate. This news is confirmed by the actor himself via a tweet. On Saturday Prakash Raj, who has been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took to his Twitter and wrote, “#2019 PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS.Thank you for the warm n encouraging response to my new journey.. I will be contesting from BENGALURU CENTRAL constituency #KARNATAKA as an INDEPENDENT..will share the Details with the media in few days..#citizensvoice #justasking in parliament too…”
In the tweet, Prakash Raj posted a picture showing the eight assembly constituencies that fall under the Bangalore Central parliamentary constituency. The eight assembly constituencies under Bengaluru Central are Gandhi Nagar, Rajaji Nagar, Charajpet, Sarvagnanagar, Shanti Nagar, CV Raman Nagar, Shivajinagar and Mahadevapura.
The 2019 general elections will be held in April or May to constitute the 17th Lok Sabha.
The Bengaluru Central is currently represented in the Lok Sabha by PC Mohan of the BJP. Few days ago Prakash Raj wrote on Twitter, “Thank you for the warm and (sic) encouraging response to my new journey.. I will be contesting from Bengaluru Central constituency in Karnataka as an Independent. I will (sic) share the details with the media in few days.” Finally he has confirmed that he will contest from Bengaluru Central as an independent candidate.
After Prakash Raj announced his decision to contest in the coming elections, the TRS, which swept to power in Telangana recently, and Aam Aadmi Party AAP have both backed his candidature.
After Kollywood Superstar Rajinikanth and versatile actor Kamal Haasan, Prakash Raj is thee third prominent actor, who is entering in politics in the last one year. The South Indian actor is known for his anti-BJP stance. He also has been vocal in seeking justice for journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot in September 2017.
