Indian Wells Masters: Prajnesh stuns world No. 18 Basilashvili

Indian qualifier Prajnesh Gunneswaran outplayed world no. 18 Nikoloz Basilashvili to achieve the biggest win of his career so far and progressing to the third round of the Indian Wells ATP Masters event.

Prajnesh won the match 6-4, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4) in two hours and 31 minutes. Next up fo India's best-ranked male player is tall Croat Ivo Karlovic.

Playing his first singles main draw at the Masters level, the Indian left-hander had earlier shocked France's Benoit Paire 7-6 (5), 6-4 in one hour and 29 minutes on Thursday.

Before this match, Gunneswaran had defeated then world no. 23 Denis Shapovalov for the biggest win of his career at the Stuttgart ATP 250 event last year.

The win will also take Prajnesh to at least in the top-80 of the ATP rankings - a new career-best.

An unforgettable 2019 has seen him play in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time and rising to a career-high of 97 in February.
