Omicron variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in India. According to the latest update, there are now 101 cases in 11 states in India. The 19 districts are at high risk of a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Omicron cases crossed a century mark in India as the Centre confirmed 101 cases in the country today on Friday. Maharashtra state was worst hit by earlier waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, has recorded the maximum number of omicron cases at 32. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh have also new cases of the new variant of coronavirus.
Government has already urged the states to step up surveillance measures and focus on sequencing +ive samples in an effort to identify the cases and potential hotspots. The Centre has advised against all the non essential travel amid a global concern over the Omicron variant.
WHO said that Omicron variant of the coronavirus is spreading faster than the Delta variant in South Africa where Delta circulation was low. It’s likely Omicron will outpace Delta variant where the community transmission occurs. This is the time to avoid the non-essential travel, and the mass gatherings. It is also very important to observe low-intensity festivities.
