Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to construct 109 foot NTR statue on a hill in Neerukonda under the limits of Amaravathi. The L&T representatives have shown the various designs for the construction of the NTR statue.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu suggested to officials to develop a 109-foot statue of former Chief Minister N Tarakarama Rao (NTR). The memorial project is expected to cost around Rs 406 Cr, most of which would be collected through donations.
Though not as tall as the ‘Statue of Unity’ in Ahmedabad, NTR’s statue in the capital city Amravathi is expected to be constructed in similar fashion. There would be internal lift system inside the statue to take the people to the top for an aerial view of the city. A museum, an amphitheater, a water front, a ferry and a selfie point along with a theatre, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and resorts which are part of this entire project will also be constructed in and around the NTR statue.
Recently Chandrababu Naidu conducted a meeting to finalise the structure of this project. He has advised the Amaravati Development Corporation CMD Lakshmi Parthasarathi to develop the site into a commercial hub as well as the tourist spot to create the sources of income. The cost of NTR statue would be about Rs 155 Cr and the rest of it is the cost of other attractions in the project.
NTR statue will require 14 acres of land, whereas another 70 to 80 acres would be needed for the reservoir. The company has decided to complete the project in 48 months.
TDP spokesperson, Dinakar Lanka said, “NTR has been a pride for the Telugu people. The state government felt that it is time to pay a tribute to him.”
Sr NTR was was the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years over three terms.
